CONOR MCGREGOR TEARS ACL AND MENISCUS IN HOLLOWAY FIGHT

MON 20 JUL 2026 US SPORTS

Conor McGregor sustained an ACL and meniscus tear to his knee during his fight against Max Holloway at UFC 329, according to test results the fighter received following the bout. McGregor posted on social media that the injury matched one he had suffered 13 years earlier against the same opponent, though on the opposite leg. UFC President Dana White had previously confirmed the torn ACL.

McGregor stated that he returned to competition within nine months of his first ACL tear in 2013 to fight Diego Brandao. The fighter said he believed modern regenerative medicine and improved training methods would allow him to return by the following summer. McGregor reported that he was walking without crutches and had performed leg extension machine work without issue, adding that he could activate his quadriceps under resistance. He also disclosed that he had fought Chad Mendes with an 80 per cent torn ACL at UFC 189 for the interim featherweight title.

McGregor posted that he had maintained "maximum discipline" since the bout and expressed gratitude for support and well-wishes from supporters. He stated his belief that the injury had prevented him from attending an after-party, which he characterised as a positive outcome. Former NFL player Will Compton expressed scepticism about McGregor's recovery projections in response to the fighter's social media updates.
