VICE PRESIDENT JD VANCE AND WIFE ANNOUNCE BIRTH OF SON
Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha have announced the birth of their fourth child, a boy named Alec Neel Vance, born on Sunday morning. The couple issued a joint statement saying "Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother." They thanked military doctors and staff at Walter Reed Medical Centre and the White House Medical Unit for their care. The Vances' three existing children are Ewan, Vivek and Mirabel.
The birth is historically significant as the first child born to a sitting Vice President in more than 150 years, according to the Associated Press. Usha Vance was born and raised in the suburbs of San Diego, California, to a mechanical engineer father and a molecular biologist mother who had emigrated from Andhra Pradesh, India. She met JD Vance while both were students at Yale Law School in 2010, when they participated in a discussion group on social decline in America.
JD Vance has publicly advocated for higher birth rates in the United States during his time in the Trump administration. In his recently published book, he wrote that Usha had initially been reluctant to have another child, but that her position changed following the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk last year. "Not long after we buried my friend, she became pregnant with our fourth child, a boy," Vance wrote. "One life was stolen from us, but another was given."
