LIMERICK CLAIM 13TH ALL-IRELAND HURLING TITLE WITH VICTORY OVER GALWAY
Limerick won the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship with a 1-29 to 1-18 victory over Galway at Croke Park. The county's 13th All-Ireland title represents their fifth championship in six years, with their previous win coming in 2023. The performance completed a clean sweep of honours for Limerick in 2026, according to official records.
Limerick's manager John Kiely oversaw a dominant display in which the team controlled large periods of play and built a commanding lead. A goal from Cathal O'Neill eight minutes into the second half proved decisive in extending Limerick's advantage. Galway lost Ronan Glennon to a red card during the second period. Aaron Gillane scored three points from play in the opening half for Limerick, whilst Diarmaid Byrnes converted three first-half scores including a 65-yard free. Aaron Niland scored Galway's first point from play at the 18-minute mark.
The victory marked a return to the summit for Limerick after two disappointing years that included a quarter-final defeat by 14-man Dublin in the previous season. Limerick had edged home in both the Munster final and semi-final against Clare before the final display. Galway, who had won the Leinster title and defeated Cork in the semi-final, failed to reproduce that form on the day.
