CHANNEL 4 SCHEDULES THE FORGIVEN AS CELEBRITY GOGGLEBOX REPLACEMENT
Channel 4 will broadcast crime thriller The Forgiven on Sunday, 26 July at 10pm, replacing Celebrity Gogglebox in its regular weekend slot. The 2021 film, based on Lawrence Osborne's 2012 novel of the same name, stars Jessica Chastain and Ralph Fiennes as Jo and David Henninger, a married couple who travel to Morocco. The plot centres on David accidentally striking and killing a local teenager whilst driving to a wealthy friend's party; when the deceased's father arrives at the event seeking assistance, Jo and David face what the synopsis describes as "a bizarre and dark night of the soul".
The Forgiven features an ensemble cast including Matt Smith from House of the Dragon, Caleb Landry Jones from Get Out, and Christopher Abbott. Celebrity Gogglebox's seventh and final episode of series eight aired on Friday, 17 July, and was repeated on Sunday, 19 July at 10pm. The show has broadcast every Friday evening followed by Sunday repeats, with viewers discussing television programmes that have captured public attention. Channel 4 confirmed the replacement as "excellent", with viewer reviews on IMDb describing the film as "absolutely brilliant" and "Oscar worthy". The Friday night slot on 24 July will be occupied by a repeated episode from Gogglebox series seven, featuring Nick Grimshaw and Jordan Banjo among other familiar faces.
