NASA REVEALS ASTRONAUT CREW FOR ARTEMIS III MOON MISSION
NASA announced the crew assigned to the Artemis III mission during an event in Houston on Tuesday. The four-person crew comprises NASA astronauts Randy Bresnik, Frank Rubio and Andre Douglas, alongside Luca Parmitano of the European Space Agency. The announcement follows Artemis II's lunar orbit flight, which NASA reported achieved a greater distance from Earth than any previous Apollo mission, including Apollo 13.
Artemis III represents the next phase of NASA's long-term objective to land astronauts on the moon. The crew will orbit Earth whilst conducting practice operations, including docking their Orion capsule with two lunar landers. The mission builds upon the data and experience gathered from Artemis II, which NASA conducted two months before the crew announcement.
The announcement establishes the personnel who will execute NASA's stated ambition to return humans to lunar exploration. No timeline for the Artemis III mission launch was provided in the agency's announcement. The mission forms part of NASA's broader Artemis programme, which aims to establish sustainable human presence beyond Earth orbit.
