MOTHERWELL MIDFIELDER WATT JOINS TURKISH CLUB SAMSUNSPOR
Motherwell have sold midfielder Elliot Watt to Turkish SuperLig side Samsunspor. The 26-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the club, which finished seventh in the 18-team Turkish top flight. The transfer fee was not disclosed. Watt told Motherwell's official website that his time at the Scottish club had "changed my career and life".
Watt joined Motherwell in summer 2022 from Burton Albion. He made 42 appearances during the 2022–23 season as Motherwell finished fourth in the Scottish Premiership and reached the semi-finals of the Premier Sports Cup. The Scotland Under-21 international began his career at Wolverhampton Wanderers and has also played for Carlisle United, Bradford City, Salford City and St Johnstone. His loan spell at St Johnstone brought him to the attention of Scottish Premiership clubs.
In his statement, Watt thanked Motherwell's staff and supporters for their backing. He expressed hope that he and his family would return to watch the club at Fir Park in future. The transfer concludes Watt's tenure at Motherwell after one season.
