TUCHEL BACKS ENGLAND FUTURE DESPITE FAN TRUST CONCERNS

SAT 18 JUL 2026

Thomas Tuchel has committed to continuing as England manager following the fall-out from a recent match, according to reports. The Football Association chief executive Mark Bullingham released a statement backing both the team and Tuchel. Tuchel has two years remaining on his contract with the FA, which remains convinced he is the right person for the role. The manager's position became subject to widespread debate in the aftermath of the match, though the FA has no plans to remove him.

Reports suggest significant tension emerged between Tuchel and players over his management decisions and public remarks. One source close to the dressing room claimed Tuchel had "failed the players", whilst players were reportedly surprised by his substitutions. Tuchel's comments were interpreted by those close to the squad as deflecting responsibility onto the players for not following instructions. The FA noted that a victory over France would have resulted in England's best World Cup campaign on foreign soil since winning the tournament in 1966, and would have secured third place.

The primary challenge facing Tuchel is rebuilding trust with supporters, which one account suggests may be questionable. Tuchel has a history of departing previous clubs—Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea—amid acrimonious circumstances. Reports indicate the manager could potentially resign, though any change in manager would require him to walk away rather than be dismissed by the FA. The broader question of regaining fan confidence remains unresolved.
