HAMISH WATSON JOINS CASTRES AFTER LEAVING EDINBURGH
Hamish Watson has signed a one-year contract with Castres Olympique after departing Edinburgh. The French Top 14 club recruited the flanker following a long-term injury to Dalton Papali'i, who underwent surgery for a ruptured Achilles tendon. Watson, who ended the previous season on loan at Leicester Tigers, stated he made his decision quickly after being contacted by Castres.
Watson holds 59 Scotland caps and joined Edinburgh in 2011, making nearly 160 appearances for the Scottish club. He described the move as "a fantastic opportunity" to perform in French rugby. Castres finished 10th in the Top 14 last season and highlighted Watson's work rate, ability to win ball in rucks and experience competing at international level for over a decade.
Watson noted that several Scottish players have previously played for Castres and said he was joining "in great shape" with the intention of helping the club perform at the highest level. The club confirmed the signing on their official website. Watson becomes Castres's replacement for Papali'i during his injury recovery.
