MOTHER OF MURDERER JAILED FOR REMOVING KNIFE FROM CRIME SCENE

FRI 17 JUL 2026 CRIME

Kiran Kaur, aged 53, was sentenced to three years' imprisonment at Southampton Crown Court on Friday for assisting an offender. Kaur removed the knife used by her son Vickrum Digwa to kill Henry Nowak from the crime scene on 3 December 2025. She was found guilty by jurors in May and took the weapon to the family home on St Denys Road, Southampton, placing it with other ceremonial and weapons in her son's bedroom.

Digwa, aged 23, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 21 years on 1 June for the murder of Nowak, an 18-year-old finance student. Judge William Mousley KC stated that Kaur's actions hampered the investigation and allowed her son to maintain his false account that he was the victim. The judge noted that a responsible parent would have challenged their son and encouraged him to do the right thing. The knife was recovered following examination of CCTV footage and identified by police as the murder weapon approximately one week after Nowak's death.

Nowak's family released a statement following sentencing, expressing disappointment with the outcome. The family stated they would continue their campaign for justice and called for ongoing investigations to pursue the full truth about the circumstances of Nowak's death. The family also urged the government to deliver changes they believe Nowak's case warrants. Prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg KC told the court that Kaur's role was crucial in removing the murder weapon during the time police were responding to the scene.
