SAM BURNS TIES MAJOR RECORD WITH 62 AT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Sam Burns shot a score of 62 during the second round of the 2026 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale golf club. Burns equalled the lowest round ever recorded at a men's major championship. Lucas Herbert previously held the record alone after posting an identical score of 62.
The Open Championship is one of golf's four major tournaments. Royal Birkdale is located in England and hosted the second round of the 2026 edition. Burns achieved the feat by holing out from a bunker on the 18th hole, the final hole of the round.
Both Burns and Herbert now share the record for the lowest single round at a men's major. The tied record represents a significant achievement in professional golf history. The second round of the championship took place on Friday.
