REFORM UK MS REPORTS DEATH THREAT AGAINST HIMSELF AND FAMILY

FRI 17 JUL 2026 UK POLITICS

Police are investigating a death threat made against Cai Parry-Jones, a Reform UK Member of the Senedd for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf. Parry-Jones reported the alleged threat against himself and his family to South Wales Police on 2 June. The force confirmed the report and said officers continue to investigate, though no arrests have been made. Parry-Jones stated on social media that threats of violence against politicians represented "a direct attack on democracy and needs the toughest response".

The incident follows the death of Ann Widdecombe, Reform UK's spokeswoman and former Conservative MP. Reform has called for full security provision for politicians who request it. A separate incident occurred in Wales when a 47-year-old man from Newport admitted smashing the window of Conservative MS Natasha Asghar's constituency office with a large stone on Wednesday night. Gwent Police said the incident is not viewed as politically motivated and the man received a community resolution, an informal agreement that does not result in a criminal record.

The Welsh Parliament has raised security for Senedd members on several occasions recently. Huw Irranca-Davies, the presiding officer, said a "comprehensive security framework" supports members in their work. This framework includes security on the Senedd estate, tailored advice, incident reporting and security measures at members' homes and constituency offices. Members also have access to a dedicated social media monitoring service operated by Senedd security.
