UK GOVERNMENT URGED TO PRESS US OVER BRITISH WOMAN'S DEATH
Lucy Harrison, 23, from Warrington, Cheshire, was shot in the chest by her father Kris at his home in Prosper, near Dallas, on 10 January 2025. She had been visiting her father with her boyfriend, having arrived on 28 December 2024, and was due to fly home within days of her death. Texas police did not bring criminal charges against Kris following the shooting. A Labour Member of Parliament, Sarah Hall, has called on the UK government to urge United States authorities to reopen the investigation.
A senior coroner for Cheshire, Jaqueline Devonish, concluded during an inquest held in February that Kris's actions amounted to unlawful killing on the grounds of gross negligence manslaughter. Evidence heard in the inquest established that Kris had consumed alcohol on the day of the shooting. He stated he had taken his daughter into a bedroom to show her his gun following an argument about Donald Trump. Lucy's boyfriend reported hearing a gunshot approximately 15 seconds after Kris and Lucy entered the room. He, Lucy's mother, two of her sisters, and a neighbour who was present in the home subsequently found Lucy's body on the bedroom floor.
The case has drawn attention from politicians and campaigners concerned with the circumstances of Lucy's death and the decision by local police not to pursue charges. Hall's call for government intervention represents an attempt to escalate the matter through diplomatic channels between the United Kingdom and the United States.
