LEICESTERSHIRE SIGN BATTER GUMBS ON THREE-AND-HALF-YEAR DEAL
Leicestershire have signed batter Sheridon Gumbs on a contract running until the end of the 2029 season, following an initial one-month trial period. The 22-year-old, a former England Under-19s international, impressed during his temporary spell with the East Midlands county. Gumbs made his County Championship debut for Leicestershire against Essex in June, scoring 49 in his second innings. He subsequently featured in the Foxes' first top-flight victory in 8,318 days against Yorkshire that same month.
Gumbs began his professional career at Surrey, where he made four One-Day Cup appearances in 2022. He then spent 18 months with Leicestershire's second XI before receiving the one-month contract that led to his promotion to the senior side. He made his T20 Blast debut for Leicestershire in July. Gumbs told BBC Sport that the long-term deal represented "the best news I could have got" and that it would allow him to develop further within the club environment.
Claude Henderson, Leicestershire's director of cricket, characterised Gumbs as a player possessing "a huge amount of potential". The contract secures Gumbs' future at the county for the next five and a half seasons.
