CORONATION STREET ACTOR MARKS DECADE SINCE CHARACTER'S DEATH
Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt in Coronation Street, has shared a post on Instagram marking ten years since his character's wife Kylie died in the ITV soap. The scenes saw Kylie stabbed in the street by teenager Clayton Hibbs after she attempted to help her friend Gemma Winter, who was being assaulted. Shepherd described the storyline as "the most challenging story I" had played, and shared behind-the-scenes photographs and videos of the scenes' production.
The death scene aired a decade ago after Kylie had announced plans for her family to relocate to Barbados. Paula Lane, who played Kylie, responded to Shepherd's post by recalling that the song "Video Games" by Lana Del Rey was used during filming and continues to remind her of the storyline. Shepherd has played David Platt since 2000, when he was cast in the role at twelve years old.
The post prompted responses from viewers of the soap, with fans sharing their own memories of the storyline. Coronation Street has featured Shepherd's character in numerous major narratives over his 26 years on the programme, including his character serving prison time, experiencing a rape ordeal, and pushing his mother down the stairs.
