MAN JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON 10-YEAR-OLD IN BIRMINGHAM PUB
Sean Sewell, 46, from Newtown, was sentenced to six years and five months in prison at Birmingham Crown Court on 10 July following his conviction for sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl. Police arrested Sewell approximately 20 minutes after the girl reported being touched inappropriately by a man at a city centre pub on 8 April. He was identified as the attacker and detained nearby for questioning.
During the investigation, officers linked Sewell to a separate incident on a Birmingham bus in October of the previous year, in which a woman reported that a man had exposed himself to her. Sewell pleaded guilty to both the sexual assault charge and the exposure offence. He will remain on the sex offender register for life, according to court records.
Detective Constable Lewis Harris of West Midlands Police stated that officers had maintained contact with both victims throughout the investigation. A temporary detective constable said the rapid response by officers on the ground, combined with a thorough subsequent investigation, had been instrumental in bringing Sewell before the courts. West Midlands Police confirmed that it continues to work across Birmingham and the West Midlands to address all forms of violence against women and girls.
