ROBERT MACINTYRE SHOOTS 67 IN OPENING ROUND AT OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP

Robert MacIntyre fired a three-under-par 67 in his opening round at the Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. The 29-year-old Scottish golfer recorded four birdies and one bogey during his first competitive round at the venue. MacIntyre will play his second round on Friday at 12:25 BST.

MacIntyre described his round as "very solid" and highlighted his ability to save par on the 18th hole. He acknowledged that some putts came close to dropping early in his round but noted that course management, particularly avoiding bunkers, remained a priority. MacIntyre said he felt he had executed "a great job" despite laying himself further back on some shots than intended.

The golfer is competing in his seventh Open Championship and had stated before the tournament that he possessed "a chance" of contending. Following his opening round, MacIntyre said he was "in the place I want to be" and noted that whilst there remained potential for a lower score, he was not focused on that objective. MacIntyre has previously finished tied for sixth, seventh and eighth at the Open Championship.
