THU 16 JUL 2026 CRIME

A man in his 60s was found dead outside a burning house in Glenmore Park, western Sydney, after emergency services responded to reports of a fire shortly before 1am on Thursday 16 July. The body, which bore significant burns, was discovered in front of a partially alight property on Wargon Crescent. A 36-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death. Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished the fire at the scene.

Police confirmed that the arrested man has a criminal history and was known to officers, and that he was related to the deceased. Superintendent Trent King of Nepean Police Area Command stated that an altercation had occurred between the two men following a break-in, during which the front door was forced. An accelerant appeared to have been used, though police said further details about what occurred inside the premises remained unclear. Police confirmed there was no recorded history of domestic violence between the two men.

A crime scene has been established and detectives have begun an investigation into the circumstances. Forensic examination of the deceased will be undertaken to determine the exact cause of death, according to Superintendent King. The arrested man remains in custody as inquiries continue.
