ALCARAZ LISTED FOR CINCINNATI OPEN AMID WRIST INJURY RECOVERY
Carlos Alcaraz has been included in the Cincinnati Open player field, according to a promotional video released by the tournament organisers. The Spanish tennis player has been absent from competition since withdrawing from his second-round match at Barcelona in April owing to a wrist injury. Alcaraz missed the French Open and Wimbledon as a result of the injury. The Cincinnati Open is scheduled to begin on 10 August at the Lindner Family Tennis Centre.
Alcaraz is the defending champion at Cincinnati, having won the title the previous year when Jannik Sinner retired during their final. The injury has affected his ranking; he slipped to World No. 3, with Alexander Zverev rising to World No. 2 following Wimbledon. Alcaraz's medical team chose not to accelerate his recovery, citing documented cases of wrist injuries ending careers, including those of Dominic Thiem and Juan Martín del Potro. In mid-June, Alcaraz shared social media footage showing him running without a wrist cast, and later posted video of himself hitting tennis balls during Wimbledon.
Alcaraz's inclusion in the Cincinnati Open promotional materials suggests a potential return to competition, though the player has not formally confirmed his participation. The tournament will feature other top-ranked players including Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic. Alcaraz has not yet publicly confirmed whether he will compete at Cincinnati or at the US Open, which takes place later in August.
