SAMSUNG INVESTIGATES RED DISCOLORATION ON GALAXY S26 ULTRA SCREENS
Samsung is internally investigating reports that some Galaxy S26 Ultra smartphone displays are developing a reddish tint. The company confirmed to a Korean news outlet on Monday that it is "examining the matter internally to confirm the cause," but stated it does not yet know why the discoloration is occurring. Reports of the issue have circulated on social media, with some owners claiming the screens have taken on a pink or red coloration, occasionally appearing as a rectangle in the centre of the display.
The reports date back to March, shortly after the device's release, with some users observing the discoloration gradually appearing after several months of use, whilst others have noted it on demonstration models in retail stores. The scope of the defect remains unclear. The Galaxy S26 Ultra is Samsung's only smartphone currently available with a Privacy Display feature, which blocks over-the-shoulder viewing; some speculation has suggested this feature may be connected to the issue. Some buyers have returned their devices after reporting symptoms including eye strain, headaches, nausea and dizziness whilst using the phone.
Alternative explanations for the red tint include burn-in or environmental causes, though Samsung has not confirmed any of these theories. The company did not respond to requests for additional comment beyond its statement to the Korean news site. Further clarity on the cause of the discoloration is expected once Samsung completes its internal examination and makes public its findings.
