NBA, WNBA IN DISCUSSIONS OVER ENGELBERT FUTURE

Adam Silver stated that the NBA and WNBA are engaged in "ongoing discussions" regarding Cathy Engelbert's future as commissioner. The statement followed reports this week that Silver had persuaded Engelbert to suspend player Alyssa Thomas for a flagrant foul on Caitlin Clark. The WNBA denied those reports.

Engelbert has not made public comments since the incident. Members of the US Congress wrote to the WNBA and Engelbert following the foul, urging protection for Clark. The league issued a statement condemning online harassment of Thomas that followed the play.
