WOMAN CHARGED WITH ARSON OVER MANCHESTER WILDFIRES
Shania Care-Slede appeared at Manchester Magistrates' Court charged with aggravated arson, being reckless as to whether life was endangered, and dangerous driving. The 20-year-old, of Market Street in Hyde, was arrested on suspicion of arson relating to a wildfire at Dovestone Reservoir in Oldham. She has been remanded into custody following her appearance.
Two major wildfires have been burning on the outskirts of Manchester, with one at Dovestone Reservoir in Oldham and another on Tintwisle Moor near Glossop. Fire crews were first called to Dovestone on Saturday night, with a major incident declared on Monday afternoon as firefighters worked to contain the blaze during hot weather conditions. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service deployed approximately 70 firefighters, 11 fire engines and four wildfire units to tackle the flames. Large plumes of smoke have blanketed parts of Greater Manchester, raising concerns about local air quality.
Greater Manchester Police stated that the charges relate to the ongoing fire at Dovestone Reservoir, which remains under investigation. Officers said they are pursuing a number of lines of enquiry and seeking to identify any other individuals who may have been involved. Police urged members of the public to avoid speculation online whilst asking for continued assistance with video footage of the incident. Detective Inspector Andrew Day confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing despite the securing of charges against one individual.
