BRIGHTON SIGN VUSKOVIC FROM TOTTENHAM FOR CLUB RECORD £46M
Brighton have completed the signing of Croatia defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham for a club record fee of £46m on a five-year contract with an option for a further year. The transfer fee could rise to £50m with additional performance-based payments. Vuskovic joined Tottenham in 2025 after agreeing a deal with the Premier League club two years earlier. Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler stated the club has monitored Vuskovic's development closely and believes he demonstrated his quality during his recent loan spell.
Vuskovic was sent on loan to Hamburg after arriving at Spurs and made 30 appearances for the German Bundesliga club last season, scoring six goals. He was named Rookie of the Season in the Bundesliga and included in the league's Team of the Year. Born in Split, Vuskovic came through Hajduk's academy and became the youngest player to feature in Croatia's top flight at age 16, later becoming his club's youngest goalscorer. He holds six senior caps for Croatia and recently made his World Cup debut against England in the group stages.
Vuskovic replaces centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, who moved in the opposite direction to Tottenham on a long-term deal worth £52m. Hurzeler said the defender is "still a young guy who will need time to adjust to the demands of playing for Brighton and the Premier League" but expressed confidence he will adapt. Brighton begin their Premier League season against Aston Villa at home on Sunday, 23 August at 14:00 BST.
