EMILY MURPHY JOINS BRIGHTON FROM NEWCASTLE
Emily Murphy is on the verge of joining Brighton from Newcastle United, according to sources familiar with the transfer. The Republic of Ireland international is in advanced discussions with the Women's Super League club. Newcastle are set to receive a fee that sources describe as a club record sale for the player.
Murphy scored six goals and provided four assists in 15 starts for Newcastle's second-division side last season. The 23-year-old has one year remaining on her Newcastle contract. She holds previous WSL experience from spells at Birmingham City and Chelsea, and has also played in the United States. Since her international debut in 2024, Murphy has started five of the Republic of Ireland's six Women's World Cup qualifying matches this year.
Brighton have made five signings this summer as the club seeks to build on last season's performance, which included reaching the Women's FA Cup final. Newcastle are understood to be planning to add another attacking player to replace Murphy, with three signings already completed by the club this summer.
