FRANCE BATTLES WILDFIRE SOUTH OF PARIS AS HEAT WAVE CONTINUES
France deployed firefighting aircraft and ground crews on Monday to contain a wildfire that burned approximately 1,200 hectares in a forest south of Paris. At least 400 firefighters tackled the blaze for the second consecutive day. The fire occurred during a severe heat wave affecting the region.
Stefan Doerr, Director of the Centre for Wildfire Research at Swansea University, stated that fire risk cannot be fully eliminated. He said that environmental preparation could reduce the danger, but complete elimination remains impossible. Aircraft and ground-based firefighters worked throughout the day to extinguish the flames.
The wildfire was described as "virulent" by firefighting authorities. Officials did not confirm when containment efforts would conclude or provide further projections for the fire's spread. The incident underscores ongoing challenges France faces with wildfires during periods of extreme heat.
