BAKER MAYFIELD REVEALS KNEE INJURIES DURING 2025 SEASON
Baker Mayfield disclosed that he played with a sprained MCL and PCL in his knee from Week 2 of the 2025 season whilst serving as quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to Netflix's "Quarterback" docuseries. The revelation emerged via the third season of the programme, which premiered on 14 July. Mayfield also dealt with a biceps contusion and a left shoulder injury sustained during a game against the Los Angeles Rams. The injuries affected his performance throughout the season.
The knee injury was not prominently listed on the NFL's official injury report during the season. According to recorded data, "knee" appeared only four times across ten weeks when Mayfield's name featured on the Buccaneers' injury report—specifically in Weeks 5, 8, 10 and 18. The report instead documented biceps, oblique and shoulder injuries, along with illness. Linebacker Lavonte David corroborated Mayfield's account in an April podcast appearance, stating that the quarterback played through multiple injuries that were unexpected for the position.
Mayfield's statistical production declined notably in the 2025 season compared to the prior year. He threw for 3,693 yards and 26 touchdowns with a 63.2% completion rate, down from 4,044 yards and 28 touchdowns the previous season. He achieved 300 or more passing yards only twice across 16 games and fell below 200 yards on seven occasions. The Buccaneers' record declined from 5-1 to 8-9, missing the playoffs.
