ACTUARIAL CONSULTANT EARNS £1,000 CASHBACK THROUGH CREDIT CARD REWARDS

MON 13 JUL 2026

Sean Leith, an actuarial consultant based in Edinburgh, has accumulated more than £1,000 in cashback and rewards by using a credit card to pay all his expenses and then settling the full balance monthly. Leith, who works as a trainee actuary, earns a monthly take-home salary of £3,200 from his primary employment, supplemented by between £50 and £100 monthly from social media content creation, though he notes this income varies and is subject to tax. His strategy involves charging routine expenditure—including groceries, utilities, insurance and leisure activities—to a rewards credit card before paying off the outstanding balance in full each month.

Leith's monthly outgoings total approximately £3,400 to £3,900 before discretionary spending, according to his account of his finances. These fixed costs include a mortgage of £1,170, council tax and water charges of £165, groceries of £250, utility bills of £110, and contributions to his work pension of £600 monthly. He also allocates between £200 and £500 monthly to savings and investments, with the goal of accumulating £1m in a stocks and shares Individual Savings Account to enable early retirement.

Leith adopted his current financial discipline following a period of absence from work due to anxiety several years ago, during which he relied on Statutory Sick Pay and struggled with his finances. He subsequently changed supermarkets to reduce costs and switched his bank account to secure better rates. His TikTok channel, established last year, documents his approach to personal finance and investing, a subject he noted was not widely discussed among his peers at the time he began content creation.
