CELTIC EXPECT MAEDA AND ENGELS DEPARTURES THIS SUMMER
Celtic manager Martin O'Neill anticipates selling forward Daizen Maeda and midfielder Arne Engels during the forthcoming transfer window. O'Neill would prefer to retain Maeda, allowing the 28-year-old Japan international to complete the final year of his contract, following the precedent set by club legend Henrik Larsson over two decades ago. The manager intends to hold discussions with Celtic captain Callum McGregor regarding his future after the 33-year-old midfielder changed agents amid reported interest from other clubs. Rangers manager Derek McInnes acknowledged that his squad requires additional recruitment but stated that player departures must occur first.
Celtic continue to pursue various transfer targets. O'Neill confirmed ongoing interest in re-signing forward Kelechi Iheanacho, the 29-year-old currently training alongside Newcastle United and Denmark striker William Osula at the Seedorf Football Academy in Manchester. Celtic also monitor goalkeeper Tjark Ernst, with negotiations between his current club Hertha Berlin and Feyenoord progressing, whilst Wolfsburg also expressed interest in the 23-year-old. Brondby sporting director Julius Ohnesorge stated the club would entertain offers for midfielder Benjamin Tahirovic but reported no approach from Celtic for the 23-year-old.
Millwall and Bolton Wanderers both pursue striker Johnny Kenny, with Bolton seeking a permanent deal following the 23-year-old's loan spell that contributed to their Championship promotion. Hellas Verona sporting director Sean Sogliano confirmed willingness to hear offers for Scotland striker Kieron Bowie, provided the price met the club's valuation. Rangers midfielder Jens Hjerto-Dahl expressed contentment regarding his future after the club's £5.3m bid for the 20-year-old was rejected by Tromso.
