DENISE O'SULLIVAN SET TO LEAVE LIVERPOOL AFTER SIX MONTHS
Denise O'Sullivan is expected to depart Liverpool this summer, six months after becoming the club's record signing. A return to the National Women's Football league is considered most likely, with Gotham FC favourites to acquire her. O'Sullivan joined Liverpool in January for £300,000 and has made 13 appearances for the club, including nine league outings. Sources told BBC Sport that Liverpool are in positive discussions with O'Sullivan and Gotham regarding the move and are expected to receive a substantial fee.
During her time at Anfield, O'Sullivan helped Gareth Taylor's side reach the Women's FA Cup semi-finals. The Republic of Ireland international has made 132 appearances for her country and played a significant role in their Women's World Cup qualifying campaign this year. Reports suggest the transfer could involve an initial one-year loan agreement with an obligation-to-buy clause. O'Sullivan previously spent nine seasons in the United States with North Carolina Courage, making over 150 appearances and captaining the side.
O'Sullivan's departure represents a setback for Liverpool, who are attempting to rebuild following what the club describes as a disappointing 2025-26 campaign. The Reds have already completed three signings this summer but losing O'Sullivan, combined with their inability to make Jennifer Falk's goalkeeper loan permanent, has affected their transfer strategy. Liverpool remain active in the transfer market as the window continues.
