GARY TRENT JR. SIGNS £64M FOUR-YEAR DEAL WITH MILWAUKEE BUCKS
Gary Trent Jr. has agreed to a four-year, £64 million contract to remain with the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Klutch Sports CEO Rich Paul and agent Lucas Newton. The deal was finalised following negotiations that began in mid-June, with representatives exploring a sign-and-trade option before settling on the new agreement. The contract has drawn scrutiny from observers, who have questioned the financial commitment given Trent Jr.'s recent on-court performance.
Trent Jr. averaged 8.1 points per game last season whilst shooting 39 per cent from the field in 22 minutes of play — his lowest scoring average since his rookie season. He had previously signed a league minimum contract in summer 2024, a two-year deal worth £7.5 million, before opting out of his player option. According to reporting, many within the NBA expected his subsequent contract to be valued closer to £10 million following his first season with the Bucks. The Athletic's Sam Vecenie questioned the contract on social media, noting that few players have moved from minimum-wage deals into significantly larger agreements after posting career-low scoring output.
The Bucks' front office decision represents a significant financial commitment to a player whose production declined substantially. The move follows the franchise's trade of Giannis Antetokounmpo and adds depth to a backcourt that observers have characterised as already crowded. The contract signals the organisation's approach to roster construction during a period of transition.
