WILL JORDAN BREAKS ALL BLACKS TRY-SCORING RECORD IN WIN OVER ITALY
Will Jordan scored three tries to become New Zealand's all-time leading try-scorer in international rugby, with 50 tries across 56 matches, as the All Blacks defeated Italy 47-17 in Wellington during the Nations Championship. New Zealand remained unbeaten after two rounds of the competition following their 34-32 first-round victory over France. Josh Moorby made his debut for New Zealand off the bench on his birthday. Dave Rennie secured back-to-back wins in his opening matches as head coach.
New Zealand produced a dismal first-half performance before improving substantially after the interval, scoring five tries and 33 points in the second half. Italy opened the scoring through Tommaso Menoncello with a try from an All Blacks turnover after only three minutes. Sam Darry responded with a try for New Zealand within five minutes, but Italy's flat and physical defence limited New Zealand's possession and space, leaving the All Blacks with a 14-10 halftime lead. Jordan's first try came in the 30th minute following a chip kick by Jordie Barrett and a recovery by Leroy Carter.
Head coach Rennie expressed concern about the errors that featured throughout the match in handling, defence, aerial play and discipline. Italy captain Michele Lamaro stated that his team started well and put New Zealand under pressure, particularly at the breakdown. The All Blacks face Ireland in Auckland the following weekend. New Zealand's intention to play at high tempo was undermined by the handling and defensive errors that persisted across both halves.
