ST MIRREN WIN 4-0 IN CUP DEFENCE AS LINLITHGOW STUNS MORTON

St Mirren began their defence of the Premier Sports Cup with a 4-0 victory over Dumbarton. The holders secured a comfortable opening-round win. Greenock Morton, however, suffered a shock defeat at home to Linlithgow Rose. The Lowland League champions' victory marked an upset in the competition.

Morton compete in the second tier of Scottish football, placing them two divisions above Linlithgow Rose in the league hierarchy. Linlithgow Rose won the Lowland League title in the previous season. The result represents a significant cup run for the lower-division side. Morton's home advantage failed to prevent the defeat.

The Premier Sports Cup continues with further matches to follow. St Mirren's strong start suggests they remain competitive in their bid to retain the trophy. Linlithgow Rose's victory demonstrates the potential for upsets in cup football when lower-division sides face higher-ranked opponents. The competition will determine whether St Mirren can maintain their status as defending champions.
