FROCH ASSESSES BENN'S CHANCES AGAINST GARCIA IN SEPTEMBER
Carl Froch has evaluated Conor Benn's prospects in a welterweight bout against Ryan Garcia, scheduled for September 12 in Las Vegas. According to Froch's assessment, Benn faces a substantial task and holds approximately a 30 per cent chance of victory against the WBC world champion. Froch stated that the fight would determine whether Benn belongs at world level, describing Garcia as world-class despite previous losses. Benn, aged 29, signed with Zuffa Boxing earlier this year and defeated Regis Prograis by unanimous decision over 10 rounds in April.
Garcia, the WBC champion, won his title by defeating Mario Barrios in February, flooring Barrios in the opening round before securing victory by unanimous decision. The bout between Benn and Garcia was reportedly set to be announced on Friday at a UFC weigh-in, with Dana White inviting both fighters to the stage. The fight is expected to be streamed on Netflix, though promotional and broadcast arrangements remain unresolved. According to boxing journalist Dan Rafael, issues persist concerning Garcia's existing contract with Golden Boy and DAZN, whilst Benn has reportedly completed his side of the agreement.
Froch characterised the matchup as an opportunity to establish Benn's status amongst elite competitors. The bout would represent a significant step upwards in competition for Benn, should the contractual matters be resolved between the competing promotional and broadcast interests involved.
