SAM FENDER AND OLIVIA DEAN BREAK WET WET WET'S 32-YEAR CHART RECORD
Sam Fender and Olivia Dean's duet Rein Me In has secured its 16th week at number one on the UK singles chart, surpassing Wet Wet Wet's Love is All Around, which spent 15 weeks at the top in summer 1994. The song has not held the top position consecutively; it has dropped in and out of the number one spot since February. Fender responded to the achievement by saying the success has been "ridiculous – every Friday, it's been an excuse to party" when announcing the news to the Official Charts Company.
Rein Me In began as a track on Fender's 2025 album People Watching, which topped the UK chart and won the Mercury Prize. The mid-tempo song concerns self-sabotaging within a romantic relationship and showcases Fender's lyrical style. Dean contributed her own verse to give the alternative perspective of the relationship's second figure, and the duet was released as a single in June 2025. Fender told the Official Charts Company that Dean's contribution "made the song really universal – that opened the floodgates". The track has also achieved the longest consecutive run for a song in the Top 40, with 55 weeks, surpassing Ed Sheeran's record set by Thinking Out Loud.
Fender and Dean's record applies only to British acts. The song draws level with Bryan Adams' (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, which spent 16 consecutive weeks at number one in 1991. Frankie Laine holds the longest overall run at number one in the UK, with 18 non-consecutive weeks in 1953 for I Believe, recorded when the UK chart featured just 12 songs. For Fender and Dean to surpass Laine's record, Rein Me In would need to reach 19 weeks at number one.
