IRISH MAN JAILED 14 YEARS FOR MURDERING US NURSE IN BUDAPEST
An Irish man has received a 14-year prison sentence in Hungary for the murder of Mackenzie Michalski, a 31-year-old nurse from Portland, Oregon. Ms Michalski was reported missing on 5 November 2024 after being last seen with the man, identified as L.T.M., at a nightclub in Budapest. Police stated that L.T.M. beat and strangled Ms Michalski during what they described as an "intimate encounter" at his rented apartment. He was arrested on 7 November 2024 and subsequently confessed to the killing.
Following the murder, L.T.M. concealed Ms Michalski's body in a wardrobe before placing it in a suitcase and transporting it by car to a wooded area near Lake Balaton, approximately 150 kilometres southwest of Budapest. Police revealed that L.T.M. had conducted internet searches on methods of body disposal, police procedures, and the competence of Budapest police prior to his arrest. These searches were discovered during the investigation into his movements and planning.
The case was concluded in Budapest with the conviction and sentencing. L.T.M.'s 14-year sentence represents the outcome of Hungarian court proceedings following his admission of guilt to the charges brought against him in connection with Ms Michalski's death.
