ANGLIAN WATER IMPOSES HOSEPIPE BAN ON 5M CUSTOMERS

FRI 10 JUL 2026

Anglian Water announced a hosepipe ban affecting over five million customers across the East of England, effective from 1am on Saturday. The restriction prohibits activities including watering gardens and washing cars. The company cited an exceptionally hot and dry summer as the reason for the measure, which aims to balance water supply and demand. Dr Geoff Darch from Anglian Water stated the company faced challenges from sustained hot weather and urged customers to conserve water.

The ban represents the latest in a series of restrictions imposed by multiple water companies across England. Cambridge Water, South East Water, and Southern Water have either implemented or are planning similar hosepipe bans. These measures follow prolonged periods of low rainfall combined with high water demand during the UK's third recorded heatwave of the season.

The restrictions come as parts of Britain experience exceptionally warm conditions. Official drought conditions remain a possibility depending on weather patterns in the coming weeks. Water companies have stated that conservation measures are necessary to protect water supplies during the period of sustained heat and low precipitation.
