MAN DENIES ATTEMPTED MURDER OF 10 IN HUNTINGDON TRAIN STABBING
Anthony Williams appeared at Cambridge Crown Court and pleaded not guilty to 21 counts, including ten counts of attempted murder relating to a stabbing on an LNER train travelling from Doncaster to London on 1 November. Williams was arrested in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, after the incident, which left 11 people with severe injuries. The court heard that a man boarded the service at Peterborough and began an attack shortly after the train departed at approximately 7.30pm.
Williams is charged with ten counts of attempted murder and one count of actual bodily harm in connection with the train attack, as well as one count of possession of a bladed article. He faces separate charges of attempted murder relating to a 17-year-old on a DLR train at Pontoon Dock in London on the same day, and two further counts of attempted murder concerning incidents in Peterborough on 31 October. Additional charges include affray at Ritzy's Barbers in Peterborough on 31 October and theft of a pack of knives worth £15 from an Asda in Stevenage.
Williams has been remanded in custody pending trial, scheduled for 26 October. Witnesses on the train reported that passengers were trampled and sought shelter in lavatories as the attack unfolded. The prosecutor Faye Rolfe presented evidence to the court regarding the sequence of alleged incidents across the two-day period.
