MARK CUBAN SUES DALLAS MAVERICKS OVER ARENA RELOCATION PLAN

THU 09 JUL 2026

Mark Cuban, a minority owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has filed a legal petition in Dallas County District Court against team governor Patrick Dumont, according to reporting by The Dallas Morning News. Cuban alleges that Dumont's leadership has engaged in "adversarial business practices" and systematically excluded him from decisions regarding the franchise's relocation. The lawsuit centres on plans to move the Mavericks from their current home at the American Airlines Centre to a new arena in north Dallas.

The Mavericks' lease at the American Airlines Centre expires in 2031. Last month, the team signed an option agreement to purchase approximately 104 acres at the former Valley View Mall site, roughly 10 miles north of downtown Dallas, for the proposed new stadium. Cuban holds a 27 per cent stake in the organisation following his sale of his majority stake in 2023 to families including Miriam Adelson and Dumont. Cuban contends that his business entities remain "contractually entitled to participate" as equity investors in any future stadium ventures, a claim he asserts Dumont's team has violated.

The petition filed by Cuban is a pre-suit discovery tool under Rule 202, designed to compel production of documents and gather information before formal litigation. The legal action could affect the timeline and structure of the Mavericks' arena relocation plans in north Dallas. The dispute represents a significant internal conflict within the franchise's ownership structure since Cuban's majority sale three years ago.
