THU 09 JUL 2026 FOOTBALL

Manchester United announced on Tuesday that its new 100,000-seater stadium will be built on land purchased from Indurent, approximately 350 metres from Old Trafford. The club confirmed the location at the Wharfside Strategic Masterplan presentation. The new stadium will form the centrepiece of a Stadium District designed for sport, entertainment and year-round activity, as part of the wider Trafford Wharfside development. Manchester United stated the new ground will honour the current stadium's history and traditions, despite not being situated on land currently attached to Old Trafford.

The masterplan outlines provision for improved public transport links, enhanced rail connectivity, and expanded walking and cycling infrastructure. The development is planned to create a diverse neighbourhood with 48,000 local jobs and 15,000 new homes, with the new stadium serving as the catalyst for the broader regeneration. The project carries a construction cost of £2 billion, according to available reports.

The club estimates the development could generate £7.3 billion annually to the UK economy. Manchester United has positioned the new stadium as a flagship landmark for the wider Trafford Wharfside scheme. The announcement represents a further step in the club's progression towards replacing its current ground, which has hosted the club since 1910.
