FORMER GITHUB CEO LAUNCHES GIT HOSTING PLATFORM FOR AI AGENTS
Thomas Dohmke, former chief executive of GitHub, has launched Entire, a Git hosting network designed to accommodate artificial intelligence coding agents. The platform allows developers to mirror their public or private repositories from GitHub, creating what Dohmke described as a space where AI agents can operate without placing strain on GitHub's infrastructure. Entire.io is currently available to selected users in the United States, European Union, and Australia via a waitlist system. Dohmke stated that Git hosting platforms were not built to handle the volume of interactions generated by AI agents.
Dohmke argued that whilst Git itself was designed as a decentralised system since its inception 21 years ago, hosting platforms including GitHub have routed developers into centralised systems. He wrote that this arrangement was sustainable until AI agents began generating unprecedented levels of traffic. According to Dohmke, the proliferation of AI coding agent interactions has created unanticipated infrastructure stress on GitHub, which is owned by Microsoft. Entire offers developers the option to mirror repositories or rely entirely on Entire-native branches for their projects.
The Entire CLI tool, integrated with Git, allows developers to collect AI agent sessions alongside code commits. Dohmke acknowledged that Git's survival through ecosystem lock-in is not in question, as the version control system is used by an estimated 93.87 per cent of developers. His focus instead centres on evolving how code hosting platforms function in an environment where AI agents serve as primary code producers. The company positions its decentralised approach as a solution to infrastructure challenges facing existing centralised platforms.
