MET OFFICER IN KABA SHOOTING WILL NOT FACE MISCONDUCT PROBE
Martyn Blake, a Metropolitan Police firearms officer, will no longer face a misconduct investigation following a change to legal thresholds governing the use of force. Blake was acquitted of murdering Chris Kaba in a criminal trial. The change to the law means Blake is unlikely to face further disciplinary action, according to the Metropolitan Police.
Blake shot 24-year-old Chris Kaba in the head in September 2022 after Kaba drove towards officers in an attempt to breach a roadblock in Streatham, south London. The shooting occurred during an operation involving armed officers. Blake's acquittal in the criminal case concluded the prosecution's case against him.
The alteration to legal thresholds on permissible force has removed the basis for the misconduct probe against Blake. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that no further action is likely to be taken against the officer in a disciplinary capacity. The change represents a shift in how the force will assess officer conduct in armed operations.
