JACKDAW GAS FIELD WILL NOT MATERIALLY INFLUENCE CLIMATE CHANGE, SAYS OWNER

WED 08 JUL 2026 CLIMATE

The owner of the Jackdaw gas field has stated that the development will not materially influence climate change, according to a new assessment submitted to the industry regulator. The submission was required after the regulator identified several areas that had not been adequately addressed in a previous application. The reassessment sets out the operator's position on the environmental impact of the proposed gas extraction project.

The regulator had raised concerns about gaps in the initial environmental and climate analysis provided for the Jackdaw development. The requirement for a new assessment followed this review process. The operator's fresh submission now addresses those previously identified shortcomings and reiterates the company's view on the project's climate implications.

The reassessment represents a formal stage in the regulatory approval process for the gas field development. Operators of new hydrocarbon projects in United Kingdom waters are required to provide environmental impact assessments as part of licensing procedures. The regulator will now review whether the new submission adequately addresses its earlier concerns before making a determination on the project.
