EXETER SIGN WORCESTER LOCK NKWOCHA FOR 2026-27 SEASON

WED 08 JUL 2026 RUGBY

Exeter Chiefs have signed lock Obinna Nkwocha from Worcester Warriors on a contract for the 2026-27 Premiership season. The 23-year-old made 17 appearances for Worcester, scoring two tries, including a substitute appearance in their Championship play-off final victory over Bedford Blues last season. Nkwocha joined Worcester a year ago after spending two years with Championship side Coventry. The move follows the departure of Rusi Tuima from Exeter to Newcastle.

Nkwocha began his rugby career in Saracens' academy system before progressing through the Championship. Rob Baxter, Exeter's director of rugby, stated that the club has a track record of developing players who have progressed through academy systems and spent time in the Championship. Baxter said he observed similar development in Nkwocha's progression, describing both mental and physical growth in the player's game.

Baxter characterised Nkwocha's arrival as an opportunity for the player to establish himself in a Premiership environment. He stated he expects Nkwocha to compete with existing locks in the Exeter squad for selection. The signing addresses the vacancy created by Tuima's departure to Newcastle.
