TV CHEF TIM BILTON ANNOUNCES STAGE 4 CANCER IS NOW DORMANT

WED 08 JUL 2026 MUSIC

TV chef Tim Bilton has announced that his stage 4 cancer is now dormant following a 13-year battle with the disease. Bilton, who has appeared on the BBC's Great British Menu and Channel 5's On the Farm, shared the update on social media alongside a photograph with his wife Adele. He stated that recent scans showed all results were clear and that he had been signed off by his oncologist. Bilton wrote that he had been carried through by hope during the extended treatment period.

Bilton was initially diagnosed in 2013 with a rare type of melanoma after his wife noticed an unusual shadow in his eye. At that time, he was preparing to open a second restaurant and pursuing a Michelin star rating. In 2019, the disease returned as stage 4 cancer, which medical professionals considered terminal despite years of treatment. Bilton has described the 13-year period as difficult, noting that his physical condition has changed substantially and that he can no longer eat foods he previously enjoyed.

Bilton acknowledged in his statement that he is not the same person he was before his diagnosis, referencing changes to his appearance, speech and physical capabilities. He emphasised, however, that his ability to witness his sons Henry and Charlie grow represented a significant outcome. In his social media message, Bilton urged others facing cancer to maintain hope, stating that hope had sustained him and his family throughout the extended medical journey.
