DJOKOVIC DEFEATS AUGER-ALIASSIME IN LONGEST WIMBLEDON QUARTERFINAL

TUE 07 JUL 2026 TENNIS

Novak Djokovic advanced to the Wimbledon semi-finals on Tuesday following a five-set victory over Felix Auger-Aliassime that lasted five hours and fifteen minutes. The match, contested on Centre Court, ran to 7-6 (12-10), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (7-4), 7-6 (10-4) in favour of the seventh seed. The encounter established the longest quarterfinal match in Wimbledon history and the longest match of Auger-Aliassime's career. Djokovic will face third seed Jannik Sinner, the defending champion, in Friday's semi-final.

Djokovic held a 2-1 set lead and broke serve early in the fourth set at 2-0, positioning himself to close the match. Auger-Aliassime mounted a comeback, winning three consecutive games to force a tiebreak and the decisive fifth set. The final set saw neither player lose serve, moving to 6-6 before a tiebreak where the first to ten points with a two-point margin would prevail. Djokovic secured a 5-3 lead following a 19-shot rally, extended to 7-3 on his own serve, and ultimately won the tiebreak 10-4.

Following the match, Djokovic described it as "one of the best matches I was part of on this court in my career." He attributed the victory to employing his racket whilst managing nerves and the tension inherent in such contests. Sinner, the third seed, progressed to the semi-finals earlier on Tuesday through a 7-5, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 defeat of unseeded Jan-Lennard Struff.
