JON RAHM RETURNS TO PGA TOUR IN SCOTTISH OPEN FIELD
Jon Rahm will compete in the Genesis Scottish Open this week at Renaissance Club in East Lothian, marking his first appearance in a PGA Tour event outside of major championships since joining LIV Golf in December 2023. The tournament runs from 9 to 12 July and offers a total purse of £6.7m, with the winner receiving £1.2m. Rahm is among a world-class field that includes Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, alongside fellow LIV player Tyrrell Hatton, who is also Rahm's Ryder Cup team-mate.
Rahm's participation became possible after the Scottish Open secured co-sanctioning from both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour. He ended a "stand-off" with the DP World Tour in May, and six LIV players in total, including Hatton, have been granted conditional releases by the DP World Tour to compete. This marks the first occasion on which active LIV members have played a PGA Tour event. Chris Gotterup, the defending champion, is bidding to become the first back-to-back Scottish Open winner, whilst the course has been rerouted for the 2026 edition.
Speaking at Renaissance Club on Tuesday, Rahm stated he has not ruled out investing his own money to support LIV Golf's future, noting that the breakaway tour's funding from Saudi Arabia is scheduled to end following the current season. Rahm described the Scottish Open as "one of my favourite weeks" and said the field strength ranks among the strongest tournaments outside of majors. He last played the Scottish Open four years ago and is targeting his first win on Scottish soil.
