BELGIUM DEFEATS USA 4-1 AT WORLD COP, ELIMINATES CO-HOSTS

TUE 07 JUL 2026 INTERNATIONAL

Belgium defeated the United States 4-1 in a World Cup match on Monday night in Seattle, eliminating the co-hosts from the tournament. Belgium players performed a dance move associated with President Donald Trump after scoring their fourth goal. An Instagram post from the official Belgium account featured Romelu Lukaku cupping his ear to the crowd with the caption "overturn this", according to reports.

The match took place amid controversy surrounding American striker Folarin Balogun. Balogun played in the fixture after his one-game suspension was reversed following a call by Trump to Fifa President Gianni Infantino requesting a review of the red card that had led to the ban. The reversal of Balogun's suspension generated significant discussion in the lead-up to the match.

Several high-profile figures attended the match in Seattle. Paris Hilton, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez were among those present to watch the contest. The result eliminated the United States from the World Cup tournament.
