MONACO BOMB SUSPECT FOUND SHOT DEAD NEAR KYIV
Anastasiia Berezovska, a Ukrainian woman wanted in connection with an explosion outside the property of oligarch Vadim Yermolayev in Monaco, has been found shot dead near Kyiv, according to Ukrainian media reports. Yermolayev was seriously injured in the blast on 30 June, along with two others who were hospitalised. Interpol had issued a Red Notice for Berezovska on suspicion of attempted murder, placing an explosive device in a public place with criminal intent, and criminal conspiracy. Two individuals have reportedly been detained in connection with her death: a current officer of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence and a former law enforcement officer.
Berezovska was initially believed to have fled the scene on foot before driving to Germany. German police searched a rented flat and car belonging to a 39-year-old Ukrainian woman on Friday. Interpol's Red Notice described her as born in Ukraine, a German speaker, and last residing in Germany, with dark hair and a tattoo possibly depicting a snake on her right arm. Authorities initially believed the suspect was a man, but later determined this was a disguise.
A law enforcement source close to the Monaco investigation described the suspect as "armed" and "dangerous". The circumstances of Berezovska's death and the identities and motives of those detained remain under investigation. No further statement has been issued by authorities in Monaco, Ukraine or Germany regarding the case.
