HAMPSHIRE SIGN PATEL AND HUDSON-PRENTICE FOR 2027

MON 06 JUL 2026 CRICKET

Hampshire have signed opening batter Rishi Patel from Leicestershire and all-rounder Fynn Hudson-Prentice from Sussex on all-format contracts for the 2027 season. Both players will join Hampshire following the conclusion of the current campaign. Patel announced his departure from Leicestershire last week after establishing himself as the Foxes' leading scorer in County Championship Division One this season with 587 runs, including a highest score of 164. Hudson-Prentice will move to Hampshire after his second spell with Sussex, where he played a key role in the club's promotion from Division Two.

Patel has accumulated over 3,500 runs for Leicestershire since joining in 2021, with eight centuries to his name. He helped the club secure promotion last summer. Hudson-Prentice, aged 30, has taken 196 wickets and scored more than 4,000 runs across all formats during two spells at Sussex. The all-rounder previously spent three years with Derbyshire from 2019 before returning to Sussex in 2022.

Giles White, Hampshire's director of cricket, stated that both players are "experienced, high-quality players who will add strength to our squad". White noted that Patel has established himself as a consistent run scorer at the top of the order and will strengthen Hampshire's batting line-up, whilst Hudson-Prentice has been a reliable performer with the ball and provides additional batting depth. White added that the pair will bring "quality, experience and balance to the squad" ahead of their first season at the Utilita Bowl.
