NEWCASTLE SIGN CÔTE D'IVOIRE WINGER TOURÉ FOR £43M
Newcastle United confirmed the signing of Bazoumana Touré from Hoffenheim for £43m. The 20-year-old winger from Côte d'Ivoire is the club's second summer arrival under manager Eddie Howe, following the acquisition of goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen from Reims. Touré expressed enthusiasm about joining the club, describing the move as fulfilling a childhood ambition to play in the Premier League for a major team.
Touré featured in three of Côte d'Ivoire's four matches at the World Cup finals tournament. He impressed during the previous Bundesliga season, earning the nickname "the Smiling Tornado". Howe characterised Touré as a player with significant potential, stating the club believes he can offer something different and unlock considerable development. The signing appears intended to address the gap left by Anthony Gordon's departure to Barcelona in May.
Newcastle remain active in the transfer market pursuing additional recruits. The club seeks a central midfielder as a replacement for Sandro Tonali, who is set to join Tottenham for £100m, and a new first-choice goalkeeper. Howe identified Manchester City's James Trafford as a target in goal and noted interest in Freiburg midfielder Johan Manzambi of Switzerland, though acknowledged facing substantial competition for the latter. Newcastle also aim to retain Brazil midfielder Bruno Guimarães amid reported interest from Arsenal.
