MITCHELL ROBINSON REVEALS HAND INJURY CAUSED BY BROTHER'S CAR CRASH
Mitchell Robinson addressed a hand injury that threatened his availability for the NBA Finals, stating the damage to his knuckles occurred after learning his youngest brother had been involved in a car accident. Robinson released a statement via social media describing the moment he learned of the crash whilst returning from the Eastern Conference finals. He said he initially feared his brother had died after seeing him unresponsive and wearing a neck brace during a FaceTime call, and that he broke down in tears before striking his hand against his truck in frustration. Robinson played through the injury after consulting doctors, and the New York Knicks defeated the San Antonio Spurs 4-1 to win the NBA Finals.
Robinson provided detailed context about the incident, explaining he had been 910 miles away when his family contacted him about the accident. He described the experience as leaving him feeling helpless and like a failure for being unable to protect his siblings. During the regular season, Robinson averaged 5.7 points and 8.8 rebounds per game across 19.6 minutes of play. His output decreased during the Finals, where he recorded 3.6 points and 5.6 rebounds across 13.4 minutes per game.
Robinson has since left the Knicks and signed with the Boston Celtics on a three-year contract worth $47.4 million, according to reported terms of the free agency agreement. The move came days after the Finals concluded.
